Can you be trusted?
This may be the most important question you can ask yourself
Of all your character traits, trust is the one that fills your life with respect, influence, and purpose.
With all the negatives of our day, trust may be the biggest casualty. We’ve lost trust in everything and everybody, from our government to politicians, to Corporate America and Big Pharma, to our City Officials and Police Departments, to our media, sports and entertainment celebrities, religious leaders, and even friends and family members.
Anxiety is now the No. 1 mental disorder in the U.S.
For those who don’t know God, the loss of trust engenders anxiety and uncertainty as to what we should do and ultimately what’s right and wrong . . . and it’s epidemic!
We look to others to confirm our own actions and reactions to what’s happening around us. But now, most Americans are experiencing daily events, beyond comprehension, with no one to look to that they can trust. Even comforting voices may not be credible.
Where does one go for sound direction today?
Who can you trust? This is the void in which those who don’t know God now live. They have no one they can trust and you have the incredible opportunity to fill that void.
With half of our nation growing up in Godless schools, devoid of moral absolutes, America’s understanding of right and wrong has as many interpretations as there are people. ‘Situational Ethics’, ‘Social Justice’ and ‘The End Justifies the Means’ turns the twisting of truth into an admiral trait for the enlightened. But sadly, even for those doing it, that’s the end of trust . . . as truth becomes a moving target. And with no one to trust, unbelievers are left to their own sinful nature for guidance.
On a personal basis, the issue of who you can trust is particularly challenging. It’s almost impossible to find someone you trust, amidst the busyness and self-absorption of friends and family members with conflicting world views and moral codes. That’s why, once you find someone you can trust, they have enormous influence over your life. That’s the opportunity you have with everyone you know!
The Source of Trust
The only thing in the entire universe that isn’t moving is God. Nothing else can be trusted. God is, and was, and has always been, and He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The truth of these words has never been more evident, as every truth, apart from God’s word, is being proven wrong. No matter how learned and well-meaning you might be, you can’t even trust yourself without knowing and living the truth of God’s word.
Can you be trusted?
Be careful of who you trust and the words you quote. When you live your life according to God’s word and speak the truth of God’s word in every situation, your influence will lead people to Jesus. Jesus said, in Matthew 24:35, Heaven and Earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
The world is desperate for the Truth that you have living in you
You have the incredible opportunity to be a light in this present darkness . . . earning people’s trust by simply knowing, living, and sharing the truth of God’s word at every opportunity!
Wherever we are on God’s Time Clock, do everything possible to earn the trust of everyone around you . . . and God’s Trust for moving everyone, every day, closer to Jesus. There is no higher calling!
