2018 Winter Olympics – Facing Failure

The thrills of victory and agony of defeat provide the ‘Hot Topics’ of the Olympics and the visuals that stay with us. Igniting conversations on this subject is easy and a huge opportunity to move people closer to Jesus.

This is a red ‘Hot Topic’ for those on the verge of defeat, in some part of their lives, and have no idea how to cope with it. The faces on the fallen athletes ranging from sobs, to blank stares, to joyful countenance, reflect our options. Explaining how you can have joy in the midst of defeat will get everyone’s attention.

Solution: Viewing Your Life Through God’s Eyes

Our growth spurts in personal and spiritual development most often occur during times of pressure, and God often closes doors to open new ones for greater success. A career ending crash for a race car driver opened the door to mentor hundreds of others careers with far greater fulfillment and purpose.

The answer is to view our lives through God’s eyes. All of us have experienced bad things in our lives that made us better. It’s a matter of choice. Every defeat will make you better when you place your faith in God’s Plan for your life rather than your own.

Action: Share your own experience of how God used defeat to make you a better person with everyone you meet in the midst of their struggle.
